The Question

Tonight I was rocking Miller and we had just finished saying prayers.
Miller has his eyes closed and his little hands wrapped around mine.
Suddenly he opens his eyes and asks me..... "Mommy, who is Jesus?"
My heart catches.
Who is Jesus?
He is my heart's desire. He is the beginning and the end. He is the word made flesh. He is my redeemer.
How to convey the weight of who Jesus is to a three year old?
My answer to Miller was short and sweet. Jesus is God's son. He came to save us by dying on the cross to bring us forgiveness so that we may live with God forever in Heaven.
Miller smiles and snuggles in deeper and nods his head almost in agreement and closes his eyes again. And he says, "I hope God has blocks in his room."  With that he drifts off to sleep.
Simplicity. Child like faith. Why do I try to complicate my faith and love for Christ? Where did my hope for Heaven go?
