The Biter Bicuits

We are working on Noah's highchair manners. We want the kind of baby that people at the next table say, "Wow what a well behaved child" We try to get him to keep his hands in his lap or on the tray. And we are working on teaching him to communicate using signs for all done, more, please and thank you. We know he is a ways away from being able to do these things but we are working on it. We also want to sit together at the table at the end of a long day and enjoy the meal together. Not one of us at a time while the other feeds, cleans, or plays with Noah. So we feed him as dinner finishes up cooking and then we eat while he talks to us or plays in his highchair. Noah is progressing with solids well. He has tried all the varieties of stage two foods and eats them all (except for meats, he did not like those so we are holding off) Noah has two teeth and possibly two more any day now and he chomps with them. It had been suggested in some of our reading to give him dissolveable finger foods while we eat to practice hand eye coordination and self feeding. So yesterday I bought some biter biscuits. Noah likes them almost as much as his hands. And they sure do make a big fun mess! But he is busy and we can eat as a family! Here is a video of Noah and his biter biscuit.

Yeah, after I gave Karoline one as a baby I never gave her another one! They make a MESS. We did the whole eating as a family thing with Karoline too and I think it does help with teaching manners for sure. It is hard right now with two but we are trying our best. If it's been a long day we let them eat and sit with them and then let them watch praise baby while we eat. It is so nice sometimes to just sit with TJ in PEACE and eat!!
Anderson still does not have teeth! Maybe soon! But I am kind of glad since I am nursing him. I told TJ one bite and he is finished nursing :) Karoline never bit me so that was good!

At Publix (and maybe elsewhere, though around Montgomery only Publix carries them) you can buy these little mesh things. They are shaped kind of like a ring pop, but they have a net. You can put fruit in them for babies Noah's age to gum. He can gum out all of the juice without you having to worry about him choking. My child was about Noah's age last summer, and he absolutely loved them. Not only that, but it started a fruit habit tthat has served us well, and it's a way to make sure he's getting plenty of fluids while it's so hot. Plus, it gives him something to do while you eat.

Canteloupe and watermelon were Asher's favorites.

Beth, that was one of my biggest worries about breast feeding. But we didn't make it very far on that. The manners thing is going to be hard. I am not a very consistent person and I will have t obe to make it stick with him!

Stephanie, thank you so much for the advice! I will look for those. I much rather he be gnawing on fruit then a cookie!

I was going to tell you to give him goldfish, but after reading the other comments, I see that that would not be a good idea! Maybe I shouldn't be giving parenting advice!!!

I tried the mesh fruit thing! He really likes it. He has tried banana which was is favorite, peaches and watermelon which he did not like. I think it was too cold.

I'm really glad you like it! Here is a picture of my little boy from last summer eating canteloupe out of his. Canteloupe was always his favorite, and he still loves it.

We never had much luck with the biter biscuits. They fell apart too easily, and then he would have big chunks of cookie in his mouth. I liked Cheerios or crackers better at that age, because they dissolved in his mouth.
